Packaging Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Packaging Technician will be responsible for the set-up/operation of packaging machinery and related equipment to ensure efficient and timely change over, startup, and dryer clean up. Work with other packaging personnel to complete operations per the production schedule. Must have hands on mechanical aptitude and be receptive and adaptable to variations in production. Packaging Technicians must comply with Great Plains Processing’s Good Manufacturing Processes and Standard Operating Procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work closely with the Plant Operator’s to attain daily production goals.
  2. Inspects and validates the performance of the manufacturing equipment.
  3. Insures correct products and amounts are used in each batch.
  4. Is responsible to work with the Plant Operator so each batch is processed in a timely manner to insure proper digest times.
  5. Sees that only heat treated pallets are used for stacking finished goods.
  6. Ensures that each pallet is packaged according to SOP’s and documented/labeled accordingly.
  7. Palletizes finished product in accordance with pallet patterns.
  8. Monitors packaging quality, code dates and strength of seal.
  9. Removes product from packaging area to the proper storage location.
  10. Responsible for cleanliness and housekeeping of the stacking area and the dryer.
  11. Responsible to adhere to quality system requirements per GPP guidelines.
  12. Must comply with all plant safety and GMP policies.
  13. Ensures all paperwork is completed legibly and accurate.
  14. Operate forklift for receiving, loading, unloading, and refilling of packaging materials.
  15. Operates machinery or equipment as trained and instructed following safety guidelines at all times.
  16. The Packaging Technician will break as follows (depending on mixing times/cleanup timing):
    • Days = 9am-9:15am, 11am-11:15am, 1pm-1:15pm
    • Nights = 5pm-5:15pm, 7pm-7:15pm, 9pm-9:15pm
    • Overnights = 1am-1:15am, 3am-3:15am, 5am-5:15am

 WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position involves walking and lifting 55 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is full-time position, and hours of work and days are (overnights) Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 pm to 7:00 am, (days) Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm or (nights) Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Occasional weekend and overtime work may be required as production demands with little to no notice.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Fork Truck License (Completed during training)

WAGE:

$15.00 – $25.00/hour + additional pay for shift differential.
